KNOW YOUR PELVIS
Therapeutic Applications of Anatomy
Sunday, July 1
10:00 am – 5:00 pm
How can we support the organs of our pelvic girdle?
What effect does gripping have on our pelvic floor muscles?
What happens when we initiate movement from “down there”?
As bipeds, our ability to bear weight and locomote on two legs puts a significant demand on our pelvic floor bones, ligaments and muscles. Learning where movement happens in the pelvis and how it is created is essential for the health of our internal organs, as well as our back, hips, knees, and feet.
In this workshop, we will learn about:
- the functional anatomy of the pelvis
- the link between the soft palate and the thoracic and pelvic diaphragms
- the embryological origin of the sacrum, coccyx and pelvic halves
- the difference between a hypotonic and a hypertonic pelvic floor
- the application of these ideas in asana
This workshop is ideal for yoga teachers and practitioners wanting to better understand the anatomy of the pelvis.
