Alicia Suárez

Alicia Suárez, an environmental engineer by profession, began practicing yoga in the spring of 2001. Fired by a desire to deepen her personal practice, she earned a 200-hour yoga teacher certification at the Lotus College of Yoga in 2006. Alicia then went on to study restorative yoga with Judith Lasater and became a certified Relax and Renew® Advanced Trainer. She also holds a certification in Prenatal Yoga and is a graduate of Amy Matthew’s embodied asana® Anatomy & Kinesiology course. She is a member of the Yoga Alliance and the International Association of Yoga Therapists.

Alicia was first introduced to restorative yoga in 2004, shortly after her mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. In restorative yoga, Alicia found her sanctuary; a way to continue her personal practice even in times when she was physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausted. This experience greatly influenced her teaching style.

Alicia’s vision is holistic. Her classes are geared towards guiding the practitioner through an integrated approach to movement and asana practice. Her desire is to help people reconnect with their bodies and experience the healing power of yoga. She strives to provide a safe, supportive and nurturing environment where people can strengthen the physical body while soothing the mind and nourishing the soul.

Deeply committed to her journey as a yoga instructor/therapist, Alicia considers herself the eternal student. As such she continues to cultivate her teaching skills and knowledge of anatomy & kinesiology principles and their therapeutic applications. Master teachers who have most influenced her eclectic style of teaching include Dana Flynn, Jasmine Tarkeshi, Sokhna Heathyre Mabin, Judith Lasater, François Raoult and Amy Matthews. She is currently enrolled in The Breathing Project’s Advanced Studies Training Program led by Amy Matthews and Leslie Kaminoff.  In addition, Alicia regularly assists Ms. Matthews at embodied asana® workshops and classes. She has also, on occasion, assisted Judith Lasater during Restorative Yoga teacher’s trainings in the NY state area.
